Seemil Chaudhry

Seemil Chaudhry is a visual artist and cultural researcher based outside of the Greater Toronto Area (Tkaronto).

She is a PhD Candidate in Social-Cultural Anthropology at York University, having graduated with a Master of Arts from Queen's University and an Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto. Both her research and creative practices are rooted in a deep commitment to storytelling, cultural memory, and social justice. Her research explores intergenerational memory, archives, heritage, and cultural production in South Asian transnational contexts through a feminist and anti-colonial lens. As an artist, she uses a mixed-media approach to create work that is both personal and political—centering themes of identity, diaspora, belonging, and nostalgia. Seemil's creative practice is a way to connect with her Pakistani heritage and reimagine cultural memory, honouring overlooked stories and amplifying voices often left out of dominant historical narratives. Across all her work, she aims to bridge art and research, past and present, to create space for inclusive, resonant, and transformative narratives.
