Gurnoor Powar

Gurnoor Powar is a second-generation Punjabi-Canadian currently in her last year at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and based in Surrey, BC. She is studying English literature with a minor in Asian Canadian Asian Migration Studies (ACAM) for her undergraduate degree. Her research interests consist of the curation of diasporic identities and networks within contemporary spaces, along with the use of non-Western modalities of thinking and creation coinciding with her classical studies work at UBC. Currently, she hopes to begin more community work within the lower mainland, especially in order to create safe spaces of dialogue and collaboration where culture and histories can be both celebrated and discovered. Wherein these spaces can become both a form of recovery and retrieval of more than just trauma while simultaneously fostering a collective Asian-Canadian identity.
