Asa Willoughby

Asa Willoughby is a language teacher, and consultant. He is currently pursuing a PhD in the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor. Asa holds a BA in South Asian Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.

Asa has taught French, German, Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi for a number of years at all levels. He has also created courses and curricula at both high school and university level. Prior to beginning his PhD, he was Language Lead for French at St Dunstan’s College, London and taught Punjabi at the Modern Language Centre, King’s College London.

His scholarship focuses on diasporic experiences of language, cultural identity, and perceptions of home. His current research involves the Punjabi, Sikh, Bengali and Sylheti diasporas.

Asa is also a trained Indian classical dancer in Kathak and Bharatanatyam.
